Stephen Carter is an artist whose studio practice is mainly concentrated on painting and drawing. He obtained a 1st class degree in Fine Art, followed by a higher diploma in painting at Birmingham Polytechnic.

His special area of interests centre on painting unloved and overlooked spaces in the city. The paintings are intended to hover between the figurative and the abstract, the imagined and the observed. He was also Principal Lecturer in Fine Art with the University of the Arts London (Central St Martins) and retired summer 2015, and was a consultant for the MA Art in Space course at Kingston University. He has exhibited in both group and solo shows in the UK and abroad.

His work is in collections in the UK, Europe, USA & Australasia.
